Chris Spearing - Captain 2019
Welcome to the Oxfordshire Golf Captains website, where you can find details of our officers, fixtures and our history.
You will see in our “History” section how we started – from a small number of clubs and members, with relatively few events to now when we have over three hundred members playing matches and events against 18 other Captain’s societies.
When I joined Oxfordshire Golf Captains in 2002 I quickly came to realise that this is the best perk of being a club captain, and I am quick to tell new captains of Drayton Park. All our matches and events represent great value for money, provide the opportunity to play many different courses, and with friendly banter thrown in.
It is a great honour to be appointed Captain for this year. I am the first from Drayton Park, though I would like to pay tribute to Graham Sanderson, for whom I was Vice Captain, who would undoubtedly have had this honour were it not for ill health. He still plays occasionally and continues to be cheerful and always smiling.
I am thoroughly looking forward to my year and to renewing friendships and rivalries, as well as making new friends.
Besides our regular tour to Cornwall in May, we will also have a Captain’s Tour based in Torquay in September and a mini tour to Dorset/Devon. I hope many members will take the opportunity to participate in these events.
I happen to be Treasurer as well as Captain, and so I am well placed to know how much work goes in to making OGC such a success. Accordingly, I’d like to place on record my appreciation for the work done by Secretary Stuart Sinclair and Match Secretary Roger Sillence.
